About Me
My name is Doug Hensel, I am a freelance fly fishing photographer and a US Army infantry combat veteran. Currently I work for Veteran Affairs helping combat veterans get mental health help through VA services. After getting out of the Army I picked up fly fishing as a form of recovery while in the transition of getting out the Army and back into the civilian work force. The Army does not set you up for success getting out and explaining to you the pitfalls that you will endure while making this major life adjustment. I have been using fly fishing to help heal along with the majestic sound of the river flowing then came the purchase of a camera. My first camera like most who start out wasn’t the top of the line camera but it did the job during the time I needed it to. Then came the day I bought my first professional camera body and from there I have been doing my best to make a name for myself in the fly fishing industry. After 5 years of holding that first camera and loads of hard work and determination I will be getting published in the September / October issue of Southwest Flyfishing Magazine in the exposure section.
